The reason many successful affiliate webmasters use templates is that they want to do as little as necessary to put up a website. Here are my favorite "do little" tips.
Once you've found the template you want to use, you get a good-looking page with customizable details and a good built-in navigation system. You save yourself hours if not days of work.
The next step is content. I'll describe my methods of creating fresh, unique, helpful content easily. I do this using my "library", the Internet. (I'll start with my free methods and go from there.)
First, a very important fact that you should write on your hand or post on a sticky note: Information is not protected by copyright, exact words are. Anything you write and post on the internet becomes YOUR intellectual property, but anyone is welcome to help themselves to your ideas. Just not your exact words.
I start with an idea and start Googling keywords, until something, usually a phrase, grabs my attention and interest. Then I put this phrase into my own words. Step one completed - that's the main idea of my article.
Critiquing your affiliate products can build confidence
Some people get stuck on this part - they have no idea what to write about. You need to create a useful, interesting site. First think about a major theme for your website, based on real people's needs in your niche. Maybe people crave product recommendations or reviews. Or maybe they have other problems besides deciding what product to buy that they need help solving.
Offering people information other than about just the affiliate product or products you are selling builds credibility and trust. That's why information that compares products is valuable. If you point out weaknesses in your product you also increase your credibility.
Fast is best if you want to build a huge affiliate website
Continue reading. I copy/paste interesting, relevant ideas from other websites, articles, etc. I don't take more than a paragraph or two from each source. I stop when I have about 300 words on my page. I do this part quickly.
Next I begin rewriting. I glance through my page and do some mental organizing - this idea first, then this. I may even number them. Then I give idea #1 a quick read and start writing in my own words.
I used to include other people's writing that I found in article directories as total articles on my own websites, but I don't do that much any more. You'll see an example of an exception below. I prefer rewriting everything in my own words and making my content original. I also don't publish articles from my website in article directories any more - more about that later too.
Affiliates can use PLR articles successfully
If you've picked the right niche, you can build an entire website using private label rights articles. The best PLR sites sell articles to as few as 200 -500 people. It's best to rewrite at least 30% of each article in your own words. PLR articles cost you a little money but you may find this solution fits your style the best. Keep in mind that usually a very small percentage of the members (10-25 out of 200-500 members, for example) will even use the articles you choose to use.
Getting backlinks to your affiliate website
You need backlinks from other related, quality websites to gain good search engine results placement. If you've created a useful, interesting website that solves your readers' problems, quality websites will link to it on their own. There are, however, a few things you can do to help this process.
1. Submit your site to major directories, such as Yahoo! and DMOZ.org, in the appropriate category. Here is a list of the best directories: http://www.webuildpages.com/directory/2. Write articles and submit them to newsletters which are then archived online. Charlie Page's Directory of Ezines is a fantastic resource for finding ezines in your niche that accept articles and is a terrific timesaving resource, used by the professionals.
3. Submit articles to article directories. I use unique articles, not the ones on my website. SubmitYourArticles.com makes this easy, safe and productive. These folks have done their homework and know how to make your article marketing campaign successful. You have the option of spending a few more minutes when you submit your article so that it will be unique on every site that picks it up. This is INVALUABLE when it comes to establishing authority in your niche.
4. Write testimonials for products you use and like. Webmasters will often post your testimonials including a link to your website.
5. Participate helpfully in forums which allow a text link to your site in a signature. Participate and build up relationships first. That link above is to the article I've used on my website that breaks the "rule" of not using other people's articles - there are other exceptions too, but in this article, look for the links to "Mike's" tools near the end, they're very useful.
That's it. The easiest thing about these tools and tactics is that all you need to do is something, anything, every day. Add content, get backlinks, and enjoy the ride!
