I've always said that the best way to find out if an affiliate program is for you is to communicate directly with the program owner and find out what he can do for you. Problem is, if you're just starting out and have not established yourself as a Super Affiliate, you may feel like you don't have many bargaining chips. I'm about to give you the biggest chip ever.
The best gift you can give an affiliate program owner is a hot list of buying customers. So look for a program that sells a very inexpensive digital (downloadable) product and ask the program owner if you can sell it for 100% commission. This should build a list of buyers quickly because you will be extremely motivated to sell.
Point out to the merchant that if he likes this idea, he could offer it to all affiliates, which would also help build his list of affiliates quickly and these affiliates, in turn, would also be encouraged to be very active.
The program owner could add an upsell item to the thank-you page for the sale of this product. If it's a downloadable report, he could offer it in print; if it's a digital download of music, he could offer a set of CDs at a reduced price; whatever physical product he upsells, he could offer it with free shipping.
There are so many variations on this idea. It's really not such a shocking idea, trying to get 100% commissions, and well worth a try.
